One of the first recommendations I make to my clients is drinking a glass of room temperature water with half a lemon squeezed into it first thing in the morning. It is one of the easiest things to do and one of the best ways to kick-start your body. It is also a great way to detox your body. Since Spring is in the air I thought it would a good subject to write about. Once I started drinking warm/room temperature lemon water first thing in the morning I noticed several positive changes.
Less bloating in my midsection
Felt more energized
My skin looked better
There are other benefits to drinking lemon water in the morning such as

Why room temperature water?
Warm water serves to stimulate the gastrointestinal tract and it also is easier on your body. Cold water may seem like a good idea but it actually is a shock to your system and if you drink it with a meal, it may slow down digestion. Your body has to work to bring it to 98.6 degrees, your body’s natural temperature.
I always use organic lemons, just in case I drop them in the glass! The whole purpose of developing these habits is to rid your body of any toxins and to ensure that it works and feels its best; so organic is the best way to go! Lemons are high in vitamin C and potassium, which boosts your immune system and stimulates brain and nerve function. They are also high in pectin, which aids in weight loss and fights cravings! Lemons are also an alkaline food that balances your body’s pH. This is especially important considering how our modern diet is filled with foods that are highly acidic. When our bodies are acidic it makes us more prone to disease and fatigue! Yet, another reason to add some of the lemon’s goodness to your life!
