Beautifying Yellow Foods

There’s an important connection between what you eat & how you look & feel. Do you notice that your skin has a tired, dull appearance? Your skin, not just on your face, is your body’s largest organ. You eliminate many toxins through the pores on your skin. When your skin isn’t working properly the toxins build up & this can lead to breakouts, eczema, dry skin, or dry circles. What can yellow fruits & vegetables do for your skin?

 

Yellow fruits & vegetables contain an abundance of carotenoids & bioflavonoids, antioxidants that protect your cells from damage by fighting free radicals & reducing inflammation. They also contain lots of vitamin C! Not only do these antioxidants & vitamin C help maintain healthy skin, they also promote stronger teeth & bones, prevent allergies & promote healing of wounds. In studies it has been proven that these nutrients support your heart, vision, digestion & immune system! As if just healthy skin wasn’t enough! :)

The following recipes are delicious ways to add some yellow to your life & get beautiful, glowing skin (among other health benefits!)

 

Probiotic Mango Smoothie

1 1/2 cups of filtered water

1 tbsp. kefir*

1 tsp. chia seeds

1/4 fresh or frozen banana

1 mango, half frozen, half fresh**

1 wide slice of frozen organic lemon, peeled

1/2 slice of fresh organic lemon

1 tsp. fresh organic lemon zest

1 tsp. fresh ginger zest

1 tbsp. aloe vera pulp (optional)***

 

* Kefir can be found in many varieties – goat milk, organic milk, coconut etc – choose the one that you think is best, just go organic & humanely raised

** If frozen is all the is available then use all frozen mango

** Aloe vera pulp can be obtained by trimming the green skin & edges off the aloe leaf

 

Blend ingredients together using your Vitamix or regular blender & enjoy. This smoothie has lots of vitamin C & beneficial bacteria (kefir) & many other vitamins & minerals that will boost immunity & beautify your skin.

 

Beautifying Almond Mango Smoothie

1 ½ cup organic coconut water

1 cup organic mango, fresh or frozen

1 tbsp chia seeds

¼ organic almonds, whole

1 tbsp Goji berries (or 1 tsp Goji berry powder)

 

Blend ingredients in Vitamix/blender & serve. Goji berries have many nutrients & antioxidants that reduce inflammation, prevent premature aging of the skin & boost immunity. Mangoes are high in vitamins A & C. Vitamin A is a powerful, rejuvenating antioxidant & fights acne, which is an inflammation of your pores. Vitamin C promotes the building of collagen in the skin which keeps its firmness & elasticity. Coconut water helps keep your body hydrated. & the almonds provide your body with healthy fats & aids in weight loss.

 

Pineapple Mango Mint Smoothie

1 cup filtered water or coconut water

2 cups pineapple, cubed

1 tbsp chia seeds

2 sprigs of organic mint

Organic ginger, ½ inch piece

 

Blend ingredients in Vitamix/blender & serve. Pineapples are packed with vitamin C & antioxidants that  reduce inflammation & help alkalinize your body. Ginger has powerful anti-inflammatory properties & aids in digestion. Mint stimulates digestion & its antioxidants protect the body against free-radicals. Chia seeds are rich in Omega 3s – healthy fats, they help stabilize blood sugar, strengthen your bones & help reduce belly fat!
