The Holidays...2013

It’s that time of year again!! Holiday parties! Family dinners! Work engagements!! All the running around from event to event can leave us feeling guilty & dismayed or even depressed once we step on the scale or realize that we don’t quite fit into that hot little number we wanted to wear to make our ex-beau eat his words! ;) Ok, maybe you just wanted to look irresistible & now that dress is way too tight! I know I’ve been in several of these positions over the last however many years. I eat well & workout most of the time but then there are those days…when it just isn’t possible to be on my A game.

What to do???? How does one manage to look & feel great at one of the most stressful times of year??

Don’t start tearing out your hair just yet!! There are a few little things you can start doing right now to feel better & look great!

  1. Start your day by squeezing half a Lemon into a glass of **room temperature** water. Or you can sip on Lemon Water throughout the day which is even better!! (Just make sure that you are drinking from a glass or metal water bottle!! You don’t want the nasty toxins in plastic bottles to make their way into your temple :) The lemon helps your body clear out toxins & your body will thank you!

  1. Drink your salads!! I know this may not sound appetizing but Green juices are loaded with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants…Everything your body *needs* to be healthy! It all starts from the inside! If you are new to green veggie juices start with ones that have apples in them. They will be much tastier!! Also, please make sure that the juices are *raw* or as unprocessed as possible! There are a lot of “green juices” that aren’t healthy for you out there! So read the labels thoroughly!

  1. Watch your sugar intake!! Almost everyone eats way more sugar than they realize. Unfortunately, it has made its way into everything one can casually grab at the local deli or supermarket. 1 teaspoon of sugar = 4.2 grams So, the Odwalla Original Superfood drink you’re picking up on the go, THINKING it’s healthy, really isn’t. It has 37 grams of sugar!!!! 37. In a 12 ounce bottle. That’s about 9 teaspoons.

  1. Add a high quality Fish Oil supplement to your daily routine. These are loaded with Omega 3s! Healthy fats that your body needs for your skin, hair & body to feel & look great! Choose one that needs refrigeration! This means that it is still active & your body will be able to absorb it more readily. Also, don’t take it on an empty stomach. Most vitamins are fat soluble – which means that they can only be absorbed in the presence of fats. Take it while you’re eating a salad with olive oil & balsamic vinaigrette or having a sandwich or eating some yogurt with fruits. I love Barlean’s Cod Liver Oil capsules.

These 4 easy tweaks to your daily routine will help get your body on track even on those days when you are not able to eat as healthy as you’d like or workout. Try these tips & you will soon start seeing results! Your skin will look brighter & clearer! Your hair will be shinier & have more oomph! You will have more energy & your mind won’t feel as sluggish! Don’t forget to be nice to yourself! You won’t always remember the lemon water or maybe tomorrow it’s the Fish Oil. Just get back on the horse & do your best! Be your body’s best friend & nurture it! Feed it *real*, WHOLE foods! Read labels! Know what you put into your body! Little changes along the way will lead you to big results down the road so KEEP AT IT! :)
